SkinClear Advantages:

1. Dual Wavelengths: Most lasers use produce only a single wavelength of light which limits their use to a narrow range of indications and skin types. SkinClear utilizes a new and improved KTP (potassium titanium oxide) crystal "frequency wavelength doubling" system to allow users to easily switch between a 1064 nm single-wavelength laser beam and 532 nm. This proprietary dual wavelength feature allows users to quickly and effectively treat multiple indications and a variety of tattoo colors:

At 532nm, SkinClear targets red, tan, purple and orange pigments. At 1064nm, SkinClear targets dark pigment colors such as dark blue and black. Many competitive lasers provide only the 1064nm wavelength and are therefore very limited in the range of colors they can remove. Almost everyone who treats tattoos needs a laser capable of targeting other colors besides black. SkinClear's ability to operate at two different wavelengths provide greater versatility and value.

2. Direct Output Hand Piece and Uniform Beam Profile: SkinClear eliminates the beam problems characteristic of traditional cumbersome and difficult to maintain articulated arm systems by employing an innovative laser hand piece with a direct delivery system. With SkinClear, there is no multiple-mirror articulated arm to degrade the quality ("Q") of the optical cavity or complicate the delivery of laser energy to the tissue. The entire laser is incorporated inside the hand piece. The proximity of the output aperture to the skin allows SkinClear to eliminate the multiple optical surfaces required by previous technologies. SkinClear's advanced technology produces an efficient flat ("top hat") beam profile. The flat beam profile results in precise and even distribution of energy throughout the entire spot size of the treatment area. The flat beam profile also results in significantly less collateral damage to the skin including tissue ablation and pinpoint bleeding. This provides quicker healing and less down time.

3. Proprietary Passive Saturable Absorber Q-Switch: SkinClear utilizes a new, proprietary, non-mechanical organic passive crystal method of "Q"-switching in which a special solid-state crystal called a saturable absorber selectively absorbs (collects) and stores the desired 1064 nm wavelength photons and quickly releases the photons to produce the desired short laser pulses with highest maximum peak power. SkinClear's proprietary organic crystal is highly absorptive at low light intensities and becomes "bleached" when fully-saturated as the light intensifies. SkinClear's system is superior to active/mechanical Q-switching mechanisms because it offers greater economy and longevity, requires less optical elements inside the laser cavity and requires no outside driving circuitry.

The SkinClear Method:

Through a process known as selective photothermolysis, SkinClear selectively targets and destroys tattoo pigments while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed and intact. The "Q"-switched technology used by the SkinClear System makes it highly effective and safe for the treatment of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions. The mechanism of action of the "Q"-switched technology consists of photoacoustic waves generated in the skin by the released photons of light. Phagocytosis is the process induced by the SkinClear laser resulting in the engulfment and destruction of extracellularly-derived materials by cells, such as macrophages and neutrophils. The body is then able to naturally eliminate the resulting smaller tattoo ink particles. SkinClear's flat ("top hat") uniform beam profile helps to ensure controlled, targeted treatments, free of undesired tissue ablation or bleeding. This results in safe and effective removal of tattoos and pigmented lesions, leaving the skin surface undamaged.

SkinClear Indications:

Tattoo Removal

Interest in tattooing procedures among Americans is at an all-time high. It is estimated that approximately 15% of Americans have tattoos, with 36% of those aged 25-29 having at least one tattoo. Many of these individuals express regret over time in having this procedure done, creating a major opportunity for physicians interested in providing tattoo removal services.

During the process of tattooing, tattoo pigment ("ink") is driven into the skin and deposited within the skin's dermal layer. Left untouched, the majority of the entrapped pigment will remain intact indefinitely. SkinClear selectively targets and destroys tattoo pigments while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed and intact. The body then eliminates the resulting smaller tattoo ink particles via the lymphatic system.

Pigmented Lesions

A vast majority of individuals have some type of pigmented lesions. Some are born with prominent pigmented lesions, birthmarks, café-au-lait spots, or freckles, which can be cosmetically troublesome if on the face, neck or other visible area. Other lesions develop over time. Age spots (solar lentigines) can be cosmetically bothersome. Most adults develop them over years of sun exposure. Women also acquire unwanted pigmented lesions due to hormonal changes. In the past, the most effective remedy for pigmented lesions was to cover them with make-up. Recent endeavors in removal such as cryo-surgery and chemical agents have been attempted, but often leave scarring or hyper/hypo-pigmentation. A need has existed for an effective, patient-friendly modality. SkinClear is the perfect solution. SkinClear is able to target and remove pigmented lesions through selective photothermolysis, the same process, which allows convenient and safe removal of remove tattoos.
